An image in Medici's archive shows the artefact broken in multiple pieces prior to the object's subsequent restoration. The period of time the artefact was in Medici's possession is unknown.

Acquired by Michael and Judy Steinhardt.

Christos Tsirogiannis identified the artefact, when it came up for auction as part of Christie's December 11, 2014 sales event.  Listed as Lot 85 in the New York sale, the idol had an estimated bid price of $800,000 to $1,200,000 USD.

Christos Tsirogiannis identified the artefact, when it came up for auction consigned by Michael and Judy Steinhardt, as part of Christie's December 11, 2014 sales event.  Listed as Lot 85 in the New York sale, the idol had an estimated bid price of $800,000 to $1,200,000 USD. After its identification the idol, together with four more antiquities identified by Tsirogiannis from different confiscated archives, was withdrawn from the auction.
